Brouwhoeve: The taste of the Costa Blanca, citrus and cocoa

At Chocolates Marcos Tonda, where the craft has been cherished since 1793, they understand that the quality of the fruit is just as important as the quality of the cocoa. The oranges are picked in the nearby orchards of the Valencia and Alicante regions, after which the peels are candied using artisan methods. This process preserves the essential oils and the natural freshness of the fruit, without making it too sweet.

At Brouwhoeve, we appreciate the complexity of this product. The dark chocolate coating is specially selected to complement the aromatic notes of the orange. As soon as you bite through the chocolate layer, the juicy, fleshy character of the candied orange is released. This is a classic Spanish duo, renowned worldwide for its balance. This treat is not only a pleasure with coffee, but also serves as a refined digestif after an extensive dinner.

Aroma: An enchanting bouquet of fresh orange oil, zest and the deep, earthy aroma of dark chocolate.

Flavour: A perfect balance. The bitter opening of the cocoa is immediately followed by the fruity, lightly tangy and sweet burst of candied orange. The finish is long, refreshing and aromatic.

Texture: A beautiful contrast between the crisp snap of the chocolate on the outside and the soft, almost gummy texture of the orange within.

The ultimate moment of enjoyment

  • Serve at room temperature (20°C) for the best balance. The essential oils in the orange peel are then released at their best.

  • These orange pieces are the ideal finish to a dinner, served alongside a cup of black coffee or a strong Earl Grey tea.

Drink pairing

  • Beer: A surprisingly good match with our ALTHAIA Mediterranean Lager or a fruity IPA. The citrus notes in the hops enhance the orange in the chocolate.

  • Wine & digestif: Fantastic with a glass of Cava or a sweet dessert wine such as a Moscatel from Alicante. The bubbles and acidity of the Cava cut beautifully through the rich chocolate.

Sugar, orange 25%, cocoa butter, cocoa mass, lecithin, vanilla, glazing agents E-414 (gum arabic, sucrose, glucose syrup and water), glazing agents E-904 (coconut oil, shellac and ethanol). At least 50% cocoa.
